I bought 2 to set side by side to use as a coffee table in front of the sofa. Top is soft but stiff and flat enough to set drinks on. Temporarily will show indents made when placing a heavy object on it (feet) but flattens back out nicely after a few minutes. Very sturdy.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
